  • KZN130 Brake Pads

    Hi All,

I ordered pads and disks from a well known (on here) independent Hilux/Surf specialist that don't appear to be correct.

I have a 1995 Hilux Surf 3.0TD SSR-X Auto and the removed pads and disks are different to those supplied.

Does anybody know if there were any variances on the parts used for this model? Only one type of pad and disk is listed for the KZN130 on the specialist's website - but my local Motor Factor was able to supply the correct items after providing the VIN to them.

I also have some vibration from the front wheels (especially when braking), causes the steering to shake under braking and shimmy at about 50 to 60 MPH. This was with worn 50/50 All Terrain tyres (that the previous owner ran at 18psi) that may have contributed (new ones to be fitted).

Any help or guidance much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Andrew

Get onto the supplier, it's unusual for most of the suppliers recommended on here, but it could simply be the wrong ones have been sent out, unfortunately i think most would offer an exchange more readily than a refund so you may have shot yourself in the foot by buying some from another supplier if you did that before contacting the original people.

Just had a look on the EPC though, and interestingly there are three different brake pad kits available from Toyota, all of which show the same part # as a substitute. Probably means that originally the kit's had minor differences, but since have been superceeded by a new kit which has enough tolerance in the design to fit all 3.

Same pads 04465-35140 for all LN. KZN and VZN models from 8/91 to 11/95. Only differenc being the shims after the 5/95 were an extra and before this were supplied as a kit with the pads.

Genuine Toyota pads have two part numbers, but in reality they both fit any car. Slightly smaller discs will leave a lip on the wider pad where it misses the disc on the edge. It doesn't matter which you fit. Roughtrax and Milners supply the wide size pad only, to save confusion and what to stock, if they fit in the calipers, then they are fine.

If they don't fit at all, then I'd guess the wrong pads completely have been supplied by mistake, probably from a truck without vented discs.

Steering shudder under braking is normally warped discs, shaking all the time is normally duff tyres or tracking, or worn steering components
