Ok that is our course, but tomorrow it is 10.14pm Sunday here so we will tackle it in the morning. And I shall let you know how we go Richard. Thanks again mate, really appreciate it
What a pain in the ass, pull everything off and get the ###### pump out effort. Thanks to a couple of mates who helped out but the fuel pump is out and ready for a rekit!
Will let you know how much misery it takes to get it back in...
It should go in ok. The only problem is the injector pipes are in the road and to get the two back ones off means pulling off the intake manifold that has the throttle assembly off over the rocker cover. I will be refitting this in a month as that is the next time my friend and I have the same days off.
If the rear injector pipes on the pump are the front 2 on the block then you can get them off without taking the manifold off as i forgot to fit the injector pipes and had to fit them after everything was fitted
Ok got the pump back all re-kitted. I will let you guys know how we go. Saturday is the re-fit day. Not looking forward to it at all. There will be plenty of beer in the beer fridge for this episode. Stay tuned!
Well the pump is in and the Lux is running. But not running so good. White smoke. Me thinks timing. We had the timing marks all aligned but it sure is running bad. No power, rough idle. So it looks like we are heading back down the road of pulling down the ###### engine to get this thing timed.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Chris
Worse now. Fuel Pump is red hot. So hot you cannot touch it. I had the pump rekitted and now I am wondering if the mechanic shop stuffed it. I am trying to find info if the pump is oil filled for lubrication or does the fuel do the lubrication? The pump no longer pumps fuel at all. It could be because it is super hot so I have to wait til it cools down to try again. If it still does not pump out she comes again. Sigh...

Ripped it down again. It seems as though the woodruff key is burred and we believe it was not turning in the end, hence the no fuel situation. Going to get a new key and reinstall it tomorrow. We shall see from there. Oh we would have done it today but stuff that we went off shore fishing instead. A much better result indeed!
Well the pump is not injecting. It got red hot after the first reinstall so now we are wondering if it has damaged either the gaskets or the electronics inside the pump. The pump was so hot it burnt our hand when we put it on the top cover of the pump. So it is out again (3rd time). Do the 1994 KZN 1KZ-TE 3.0L TD Hilux Surfs have electronic fuel pumps to deliver the fuel from the tank to the injector pump? The pump will have to be sent 1200kms south to be checked, repaired and or replaced. What a saga.
The only thing we can say positive here is, we have it down pat getting the damn thing in and out.
Hi Chris.Yes the 94 kzn130 1kz-te has the electronic fuel pump.I do still have one here for sale if you get stuck and need one so just let me know if you want it
Thanks will let you know. I am having a break from it today. The pump has to go South so it will be better than a week before it gets back. Fishing is much more fun than working on the ol lux...
Ok and finally a result. 6 Weeks ago we got the Surf running. This saga took 5 months and 10,000 kilometres to fix. The kilometres refer to having to source a second hand pump from Queensland and sent to the remote North West of Western Australia. Seems this pump is a rare creature and had to be put together from parts from 3 different pumps.
The result? Much better mileage and she runs very smooth. We have the procedure down pat when it comes to pulling out and putting a fuel pump back in. We have done it enough in the past 5 months.
Thanks to you all that offered advice. I really appreciate it.
