  • Belt Replacement 3.0 2nd gen

Morning peeps its been a while been a busy bee with my gaming website (http://www.pimpmywii.co.uk) and the dreaded work aswell,

Had a shock of my life this morning when heard a metallic grinding noise coming from the engine bay while on the M18, turns out one of the 2 belts has shredded from the alternator doo dahh... luckily still got one left on but got RAC out anyways who were very helpful, I have ordered a drvebelt set from roughtrax and also a timing belt as the lights on and its been a couple of years since that was changed.

What i'm after is some instructions for changing the main belts, i have found one for the timing belt but cant find any for the drive belts.
I have searched the forum, and the links within them ie to the normal places dont seem to have the instructions for the 3.0 version.

    http://toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/3lt/drivebelts.htm

as you will see from the above link that it seems to be under construction (booooo) and being a noob could do with some guidance..
Any help would be appreciated as need to get this done tomorrow when the belts arrive so can get to work sadly...

    Ta in advance

Hi mate i have just done all the belts on a truck i got here.I took the rad shroud off and the viscous fan then slackened the alternator right off by taking the top bolt out.Fitted the new belts but it was a sod to get the top bolt hole lined up again tho.Tensiond the drive belts and that was it.

I did have the air con pump off aswell, just take the bolts out but don't take any pipes off and tie it back out the way.
Once the drive belts were back on i refitted the shroud and vivcous fane and then put the air con belt on as i found there was a bit bore room to work while the a.c pump was out the way but you may be able to do it with the pump in place

Well the belts have arrived from Roughtrax BUT they have teeth on them ... the original ones dont... will this make a difference or have they sent the wrong ones?

excellent cheers... have started the process... got the front (fan belt) off, but having trouble with slackening off the alternator so can slip off the belt from there... have undone the tensioner (both nuts) but no movement is there another bolt? if so where is it?

there is another bolt under neath the alternator so you may need to slacken that one also.I did take the top bolt out completely.I did have to struggle a bit to get the belts back on over the alternator but they did go on.

                        Hi Peeps,

Ok am up for doing the Timing belt now >gulp< and am in need of some advice and guidance on how to do it (pictures if possible) I have looked on the normal sites for for a walkthrough but unable to find one thats not "under construction"

feel a bit jittery about doing it but if there are some instructions will be ok i guess lol...

                        thanks in advance
