  • 2 Low is it possible

I thought long before I brought my surf I read somewhere that it was possible to modify something to allow the box to give 2low or I would be happy to have 4low with the diff left unlocked.

The reason this is handy for me is when I am working shows or running slowly on hard tarmac taking pics/vids.

any links or help will be appriciated.

So I don't know if it is relevent to a 3rd Gen.

Try leaving it in normal 2wd, but put the gearstick into the 'L' position.

This will only select first and will not change up into any other gear, regardless of how much you rev it.

Its quite a low range so you may be ok with this.

What's the point of 2 low?
If you need to use low ratio, then i would assume you're stuck and therefore 4wd would be needed.

I've got freewheeling hubs on the front so I can get 2 low. Very useful manoeuvering a trailer on a steep slope with lots of grip. In 4 low I'd risk wind up of the front as I did lots of turns to position the trailer.

Did I not answer the questions in the first post, the point of 2 low has nothing to do with being stuck, BUT low allows the possibility of crawling along at less than walking pace without having to keep braking even going down hill, h1 is far too high a gear.

my old 4x4 all did this, modded sammi, Lada's and Rangie.

Yes it is possible, you just need to fit freewheelng hubs to the front to disconnect drive to them. Sorted.

as its a 3rd gen with the centre diff, could it not use low4 on the road without trouble anyway?

Thanks for the links update will have a read.

When you select LOW the diff is already automaticly locked, I was hoping somebody would know how to overide the centre diff lock?
