  • brake master cylinder

    Hi all ,
    bit of a newbie here

I've got a customer with a KZN130 thats having master cylinder problems, after checking this forum I see a common complaint is a spongy pedal. The problem with this one is that the pedal goes hard.can anyone advise on a solution or do you know of anybody that can supply a cylinder apart from the dealer.

Are you sure it's the master cylinder?

I had a problem with the brakes on my KZN130 (very soft, loads of travel) that the local garage decided was a faulty master cylinder and thus needed to replace.

With the assistance of a fellow Surfer, we did a thorough bleed of the entire system, and then tightened up the brake shoe adjusters, and the brakes were good as new again. The rear adjusters seem to be the common problem, they're auto adjusting, but seem to auto-un-adjust as much as anything so need tightening up every now and again.

If people would use their handbrakes instead of just shoving the truck in park, then the auto adjusters tend to work just fine. Im not inferring that you do that, but it is a common cause on Autos for rear breaks not adjusting. The autoadjuster only clicks round to take up slack on application of the handbrake

I know that, but even when I do use my handbrake (which I don't a lot of the time I admit) the adjuster, well, doesn't.

If you have poor brakes and a hard pedal, that would suggest the servo unit/vacuum may be faulty.
