  • Can someone help me before I buy a hilux, pleeease?

    Hey there everyone!
I need some help, toyota uk can't tell me, so I thought I'd come to the people that own them! I am looking at a Japanese import Hilux Surf 3.0 Turbo Intercooler, it is a 1996 new shape model and I am trying to find out from anyone that owns one or from anyone that actually knows what the fuel consumption is like! If anyone can help, or can point me in the right direction I would be most grateful!

Thank you all, from the newbie that's so new, he don't even own one yet!!

Mpg is anywhere between 28-34, depending how heavy footed you are and what type of tyres are fitted.

A 3rd gen I/C owner will confirm later today I suspect.

        thanx bushwacker!

        Cheers, bud!

Also, do you have any idea about this thing called Fuel Cat? It's supposed to boost your combustion, and improve your mpg as well as decreasing your emissions (which is a moot point as this prospective vehicle is a Jap import and they righteously have a zero tolerance on emissions)?

        again, thanx!

Would agree with all of the above, as for Fuel cat, if the savings really were that good, every car ever made would have one! They recently announced that these super fuels sold by Shell,BP etc do not have any significant advantage over standard fuels, So if a big company like shell can't improve the fuel to go better.........!

            Mark.....

i think it's fairly new which may be why not many people have heard of it, and rather than being a fuel additive, it's a device you attach to your fuel line, or inside your fuel tank, that makes the fuel you use more efficient, and cleans build-ups of "stuff" in your engine. I just wanted to know if any1 used one, and their opinions on it! well, let's face it, it costs around 89 quid and if you're buying a 6 grand hilux it can't hurt to try it!!

weeee! the joys of buying a car!! lol!

I think Phillip, one of the members on here works for / owns / designed / is somehow or other involved with the FuelCat product. There are members here have them fitted, i think TonyN is an authorised dealer, so there may well be people on here who can speak about fuelcat from personal experience.

Hi, I don't think there's much on the market to improve the fuel consumption on surf, if there were, we'd all be using it.

Sound system? how big is your wallet?

I've got a 4x 45 watt radio/cassette head unit with a six disc changer in the boot, with the two factory speakers up front, two 6" speakers fitted in the boot area ( soon to be changed for 6x9's), and a 300 watt amp running a 10" sub, both mounted in the boot.

Got it all second hand from a mate for £100 and he fitted it for me too.

It's obviously not the best in the world, but it's loud enough to make yer ears hurt, and has enough base to rattle the door mirrors.

You could spend 10 grand on a sound system if you like, but it's a personal thing, as everybody's ears are tuned differently, and everybody likes different music.

I listen to mainly rock/blues ( Led Zepp, Sabbath, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hendrix, Foo Fighters, Rage against the machine,AC/DC, etc, etc.) so I like to hear the guitars, base guitar, drums, symbols, all indevidually, it's difficult to get a balance, so I may need an equalizer too at some point.

As I said, the sky is the limit, I suggest checking out the sound systems in other surfs, with your own music, and see what you like.

                      Hope this helps,

                      Rob.
                      Rob

                      Still working for the man!

Thanks dude! I have pretty much the same musical tastes although, i don't really want my sub to be that big (I know 10" is not big, but I have to keep as much space as poss, as I'm a sparky (to be))! can you tell me whether it's possible to mount a sub under any of the seats? this would cure needing to mount it in the boot and therefore maybe damaging it with tools and use of carting heavy cable around!
