  • Steering problem

Had the Surf serviced today, and when I collected it, the mechanic said he had tightened the power steering box. I know the steering had a bit of play in it, but driving it home it felt tighter, plus, what I can only describe as over-steer.

I thought I would loosen the box off again, but the screw would not budge, so obviously he had tightened it as much as he could.

Any Ideas from all who know the surf inside out, to what I could do next.

It should only be tightened enough to pick up the slack, if hes wound it right down, i would slacken it off and re tighten until the play is gone but not mega tight.

Take the washer bottle out, and on the steering box, you will see a nut with a screw in the middle of it. Undo the nut and tighten the screw 1 turn and see how that feels and adjust accordingly.

Tools needed. 17m socket with extension bars and large flat head screwdriver.
