It's very nice, but you could get a 1996-1997 3rd gen for that money.
Unless you would rather a 2nd gen of course.

Yeah, I think I'd rather have a 2nd gen for practical reasons - the 3rd gen is just too big and impractical for me (also a bit bling - am I wrong?), plus I have the feeling this vehicle I'm going to keep and 'run into the ground', as it were.
Is a 3rd gen more economical at all, or altogether a better Hilux btw, do you think?

Same economy, maybe slightly better than the 3.0 2nd gen. Also they have the option of using 4WD on the road. They're not bigger than the 2nd gens, maybe the plastic cladding makes then seem bigger.
3rd gens have a lift up tailgate like an estate car which would be easier for your bikes, the glass lowers too like the 2nd gens.

          There's two here.....

On this page and the next, both around 4 grand, the cheaper one in Manchester, the other in Basingstoke.

Huh? I thought the 3rd gen was bigger!... 4wd on road is quite a good thing to have, so might well consider it then, especially if it's a better engine and economy (still want the 3L, right?)

Same 3.0 engine as the later 2nd gen.

Speaking of 3rd gen - found this one:
                http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www...earch_full.y=3
It's the 1996 TOYOTA SURF 3.0 Turbo Diesel (trade) 67,000 miles, at bottom. Might go to see it next week - looks good enough?

I googled the phone number and got Addresses in Manchester.
I've been to Newent, nice village, there's a bird of prey centre there.

Take it you like birds of prey then! Anyhow, got to call the guy in the morning to see what the deal is. Think it looks promising enough... can only go to see it late next week. Thank you for your help with this.

Depressed again! No other in sight...
