Heater direction control?

Hi Surfers,

The direction control buttons for the heater on my 3.0td 2nd gen Surf 1995 are lighting up but do not appear to be working. I can not get any air to blow on the windscreen or feet so it must be `stuck` on air to the face direction. Anybody here experienced the same problem and know the cure before i get the tools out?

Could be stuck flaps

you can move the flaps by hand under the drivers footwell , put the fan on full and pull the mechanism untill it blows on the windscreen , i think your problem is the cable that controls the flaps movement . its more than likely kinked and lost it rigiditity - a new cable at toyota is around 6 pounds , tricky to fit at first , but seems easy when you know how.

i greased all the workings of the flaps too, once i got the new cable fitted so everything runs easier.

I believe the buttons control a servo, so it also could be be the servo is screwed or just a stuck cable as previously mentioned. If you can strip down the dash front and disconnect the cable from the servo that should allow the servo to work, if OK, proving it's the cable. Alternatively, if once disconnected the cable moves the flaps then you know it's the servo.

anyways the part number for the flaps control cable is 87286 - 35010 , this is for the push button servo type not manual sliders

there are a number of cables though on the epc so good luck. if you need 1.

im in th emiddle of repairing same problem, cable was kinked at the servo end, but ive got another here already. what is the best way to approach removing the cable from the other end? i cant get anywhere near it, do i need to remove the instrument panel and get at it from above? any help would be good, my dash is in bits and i need to go get lunch

Mine was stuck today, a quick search on here and I found the controls in drivers footwell. A bit of lube and we're away working again.
