  • Fanbelt squealing

If I accelerate hard, one can hear what sounds like the fanbelt slipping. The front belt nearest the radiator seems to lack tension. I am not mechanically minded at all but would like to rectify the problem. Looking at it from the front, you have a pulley at the very top, then a pulley off to the left almost at the same height, then another pulley I assume on the crankshaft, and a pulley for camshaft??? The vehicle is a 1997 KZN185 3.0L auto. Please advise on the best way step by step to tighten up the fanbelt or should I say fanbelts as I see that there are another two belts behind the large fanbelt. Please advise. Thanks.

That sounds like the A/C belt, as you look at the A/C compresser (thats the thing top left of the engine) slightly right and slightly lower is a tensioner pulley, loosen off the centre nut, then adjust it with the bolt on top...Remember to tighten up the centre nut when you are done.....good luck
