    Hi all,
jus a quick question. i'm about to change me cambelt and i need a vice to compress the plunger in the cambelt tensioner. what size of vice should i get. i have done a search on the forum and couldnt find any answer.
i'm looking at a 75mm , would that be ok, or do i need bigger.
    cheers

Think you'll find you will need a biger vice, about 100mm +, I use large pipe grips if I havn't got a vice handy
If it aint broke dont fix it

Another way to compress it is to use a jack, and put the tensioner between the jack and the chassis and jack it up carefully then put the pin in

            got the clamps

I think the use of a large G clamp would do it

Take it in to B&Q and use their vice.

              Seriously though
I used my own one and it's not a problem to do.
Smack it with a 16lb Hammer and it will come off!

You might want to buy a new tensioner mate. For the money they cost to buy you would be better buying a new one. I replaced mine when I did my cambelt. I've also changed the idler pulley, but at £90 I only did that because I dropped it and broke the pulley wheel.
