  • Starter Motor On Way Out???

Hi all, Excuse my ignorance as you have no doubt had this before but i`m heading for a starter motor failure. For the last couple of days the starter has just `clicked` and then after waiting and trying again it starts ok. I have seen starter motors for riduculous money advertised and so I am wondering about taking it to a local company for a overhaul before it leaves me stranded. Is there a specific way of removal? Many thanks as usual, especially Tony N !!

        Starter Motor

Exactly the same thing happened to mine.

Bought a repair kit from Roughtrax £45...............Sorted!!!

Beats paying £300 plus for a starter.

Do a search one the site - you'd be surprised at what it might throw up.

The kit of 3 costs £35 from Toyota main dealers.

This one has the parts numbers for the 2.4

If i may ask... this morning my starter motor sounded terrible... like someone with a really loud bad cough and she refused to even turn over...
Is it the starter or solonoid... and how easy is it to remove the starter.. I'm guessing lying under her and removing 2-3 bolts... (and the wiring).. does the starter motor just slide out then from its housing...
