  • Gearbox Oil Change

A bit late now as I've finished the job, but wondered if anyone had found a user-friendly way...

For those of us without a body raise, yet, I really struggled to get new oil into the fill/inspection hole in the side of the gear box. Had the oil bottle jammed as far up under the bodywork as I could get it, but still couldn't get it high enough to drain into the box. Ended up with a hose all the way through from the wheel well. Am I missing something obvious? (Apart from maybe some type of hand pump)

    Happy belated New Year too!

    Manual or auto box?

I filled my auto box (slowly) via the dip stick.

Manual 'boxes are filled the way you described, but auto 'boxes are filled through the dipstick tube.

          Cheers All

Its a manual. Took a while, and only a little blood was shed (don't think it'd been done for a while, and the bolts were happy where they were!!) Definitely getting something like that suction gun for next time. Only the front diff to go, so might get one for that. Rear diff and trans box were both pretty easy to get to. Thanks for the link.

i got one of those machine mart suction guns - very usefull and so much quicker than my old method of hosepipe, funnel and bike stand, oil used to take ages to flow down the pipe

used the gun this weekend as front diff/flange oil seal leaking so i drained diff, replaced seal and refilled the diff with new oil.
