Pardon my ignorance, but what is the significance of the non return valve?

it works off heat and keeps the oil at the top of the engine , it only allows oil back to the sump when the engine oil is cold / colder

OK, thanks. That seems like a good idea.

Anyone know the price for buying one direct from Toyota? I need to service my 3.0ltr, and I would buy from Roughtrax, but the £8 delivery on a £7 item is a bit off-putting.

Either that, or is there a way to identify the non-return valve type? My local Part-co can probably get them in, and at a good price too. I'd just like to be able to identify the filter correctly before I hand over the folding.

                14-58 plus vat from mr.t

if you look inside the filter you will see the valve.
