  • Air Temp Sensor Missing? 3.0TD

Should there be an air temp sensor located in the air filter canister on the side nearest the bulkhead? I have a rubber grommet which draws in air. I notice the 2.4 models have a sensor on the air intake pipe. The 2.4 position for the sensor is also as indicated on the 1KZ repair manual online.
My 3.0TD doesn't have it on the intake pipe ...... just this hole! If its missing I wonder where the wires to the ECU have gone and why?

Cheers Guys! I am Newbie to 3.0TD so go softly.
Smack it with a 16lb Hammer and it will come off!

Should it have one or not? Or is it somewhere else?

If it's missing - it's as good as unplugged - what does the ECU think is going on?
I have not had the vehicle long so am suspicious.

You 3.0TD owners have one or not?

If it didn't I wouldn't have told you to have a look for it. You also state the manual says it has one so why keep asking. If your afraid of the dark get someone else to look.

I will call upon my newbie status and request peace! Forgive me. The suns shining and the plug has been found - without sensor on it

Thanks Nev. I have other engine issues which are causing me to think the worst. Thanks Mate

Sorry mate. I'm in a cranky mood. Didn't mean to take it out on you. What other engine problems do you have. A missing sensor can do all sorts of things so replace this and then see what happens. Maybe someone over there has a spare lying around.

No problem Nev. My other issues are sort of white bellowing smoke type problems! Yes that boring old one again.

hhhmmmmmm - want to hear it?

                Mileage: 140,000kms
No signs of overheat (or on the consumer toyota gauge - bang in middle to low), No oil in coolant, No coolant in oil, No bubbles in rad, No overspill from expansion tank. Good Oil pressure but dirty oil and bit under high. No coolant loss from Rad (albeit 45mins ticking over and reving whilst still) I don't want to drive it's embarassing and may blow!

Plumes of white "smoke/steam" under heavy pedal / Low revs pulling away. Faster = less. Dissapears at speed (I think). Too much on tick over definately after engine is warmed up. Not totally consistant as sometimes nothing at all but mainly in the grunt ranges and when its there and its certainly there, over everything behind. Not particulately glycol smelling to me. More like diesel but I am used to petrol trucks. Sounds of water dripping and trickling on shut down for 30 seconds!
Holding a rag to the tailpipe isn't particularly damp (but then I am not reving it at the same time). No dripping. Did have oil leaking from somewhere near the oil filter but thats now stopped? up i that oil cooler / back head neck of the woods.
Found VSV vacuum y-pipe going to the intake constrictor sensors was broken but replaced that. Someones been in here messing about a bit.

I read that lots of unburt diesel is white? He says praying. I can't decide if its smoke or steam though but does lingure a bit.
I will take it for a test Monday I guess and get my fate. If lots of coolant has gone on the way I don't need to pay for any tests! Just a new head ! !
The truck has had a new head 3 years ago / 30,000kms by a previous owner which was from ukcylinderheads fitted elsewhere.

Please not me as well! probably knowing my recent luck.
