second hand auto box 3 gen surf

hi there just had a second hand auto box put into my surf, its driving ok but every three weeks i have to put a pint and half of oil in. I have been back to the garage and they checked the oil cooler no oil in rad and no oil water in box they tell me to keep runing it . ive checked the oil level this time when i fetched it back and there is to much oil in, about 1and a half inches to much is this a problem, need help

Did you check it with the engine running?
The best way is to start it up move the selector through the whole gear range then put it into park and then check the level

thanks for your repply at the time i checked the oil i had just got back of a 50 mile trip, and yes i check the oil level with the engine runing, and before checking always go through the whole range in the box before dipping.
Also there are no leeks at all, dont know were it is going

If its using that much oil there must be a leak. look around the bottom of the bellhousing, oil cooler lines and dipstick tube.

Check the T/case oil level, there is a seal between the 2 gearboxes that could be knackered.
