  • Exhaust pipes

The flange that bolts the tail pipe to the middle pipe on my exhaust has just snapped off (on the middle bit), it looks like it corroded through. So, looks like I need a new mid section.

Question is however, will there be any problems if I run without the tail section for a few weeks? The end of the pipe as it is, is just over the rear axle, and is pointing up towards the underside of the body, could I risk some form of heat damage?

Other question is, best supplier? It looks like Milners (part # 002796
) is going to be around £100 all in.

There is this one on ebay (I think it's the right part) at £85.50.

    Thoughts?

    Probably...

And more thanl ikely if you run with the tail pipe missing you wiildraw exhaust fumes into the cab and run the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. The fumes will be trapped under the vehicle due to the air draught under and around the Surf whislt travelling at speed, fumes get in through the smallest of holes/grommets not eithe sealed or fitted correctly. Try making a short side exit pipe as a temp stop gap...not strictly legal but better than nowt.

      Thanks.

No way I can attach another pipe that I can think of, and it doesn't look like I can get a new section until Monday. B*gg*r.

I might have a quick chat with a welder, see if it's possible to do a temporary job of welding the flange back on. It's only really got to last a week at most.

im not going to advise on this but i drove mine for about 1000 miles before i got a new exhaust, the only probs i got was a sooty under carriage, the vehicle was no louder to drive and no gases were aparnt inside wich is a good thing coz otherwise i would have wet carpets when off road

I drove around for a couple of months with no problems , didn't smell any fumes either !! bought the middle section and the tail pipe from the guy who advertises on ebay , they were the cheapest around and the quality seems good though only time will tell on that one. Paul.
