  • 1KZTE info wanted. HELP!!!

Ok, this is the deal. I actually import the 1KZTE from Japan into the US. I have a warehouse in Miami I specialize in high performance engines but now I'm starting to bring diesel. If anyone can help me I need to know a couple of things about the 1KZTE. How good of an engine & tranny is it? What would be the average dollar price for the set of engine, ecu and auto tranny? I'm actually planning on swapping my 4Runner's 3.4L original motor for the 1KZTE, is this a good idea? Will this motor run stronger and faster than the 3.4L.

To anyone ho can help me with this questions and any other info you think I might need, please help me.

    Thanks.

    Hi JDM,

No clue on price but can tell you the 1KZTE is a great engine, powerful and robust.

If you are swapping you will need the wiring harness and the ancilaries too.

Are you getting the engine off a 2nd Gen (KZN130) or 3rd Gen(KZN185) - if it's the later I would suggest getting greedy, as some KZN185s had an intercooled 1KZTE

      If its any help...

The 3.0ltr engine is the same as Toyota fitted in the Amazon if thats any help to you in the US. It is a VERY robust engine and for what it was designed for it performs very well. The V6 does not have the same torque as the 3.0ltr diesel but then the V6 has a better top end power. I believe that Toyota use the same basic 3.0ltr engine in their current Hilux line up but it is now 2.5 ltr the trendy insurance friendly size but deliver whopping great torque from 1,600rpm to 2,000rpm. Myself if I was in your shoes and what with a blanket 55mph limit I'd go for the 3.0ltr diesel option if you can find a unit.

The manual transmission is also very robust and is probably the same design as currently used with the addition of a centre (center) differential fo 4x4 full time use.

If you are a serious Importer then I suggest you go back to business school and quickly as a genuine Importer wouldn't mess about swaping engines there'd be little if any profit left. Plus who'd buy your surplus V6 engines???
Spelling not a strong point in the US...is it..you really in business

Hi as a semi-retired importer here in the UK and have tried several engine swops, you realy need a donor vehicle for all the proper bits other wise you will never get it to run properly. l did at one time check out bringing parts in from japan which are readerly available but for what you are thinking of why not go for what the japs call half/cuts, You can buy a full front end or a back end hope l have enlightened you a little bit.

P.S. l am over in Florida from the 14th september for 16 days and we are looking at coming to Miami for a couple of days while we are down at "Anna Marie lsland" if you want give me your address and phone number and l will see if l can call in and see you. All depends on what the wife says she hates me looking at vehicles while on holiday.

To: The Mechanic. What? Business school!!! What 4. Running my company just great and trust me, there’s plenty of money to be maid. You just don't know. High performance, turbocharged motors is what I know, everything else I import just to see how it sells.

OK, that’s that and now I need to know if my wiring harness from the 98
              4Runner 3.4L will work on the 1KZTE.

Hi answer to your wiring loom question NO is the answer, l know a 1KZTE under bonnet loom will not plug into the 2L-TE Ecu thats why l have said you need a doner vehicle to change all the bits over.

                        Thanks for the help.

Hey Hilux, well thanks for the info and I know you really want to help me on this mission. I hear that you’re coming to Miami and hopefully you get this message before getting back home. You can call me at my warehouse 305-253-4650 and ask for Carlos, if no answer just leave me message and I will call you back. I get a container from Japan on 9/16 with my 1KZTE and will do my best to get this working. It is actually a mechanic I know that will installing the motor, he is a master-tech and has built lots of crazy rides, so he should be able to complete the job. They fabricate a lot of parts and also really good welding so not worry. Since you know about this swap if you can just give me the heads up about the work require and parts I need to complete the swap. I have the engine with the transmission and the computer. Were can I buy a wiring harness? OK man, hope you enjoy your trip here in sunny Miami.
