alternative fuels

Hi guys
I,ve been trawling around the internet sites and found loads of references to bio -diesels and veggie oil fuels is there any special modifications to 3rd gen trucks to enable use of these alternative fuels ...has annyone any experience of these type of fuels or is it just too mutch trouble sorting through the tax minefield and all that goes with it ? any input would be most useful as it all appears ..just too good to be true !
