  • Air Con Leak

Tried to get my air con regassed today (uses R134a). Told that the pipe that runs to the receiver/dryer (the vertical canister with the sight glass on the top) is leaking.

The pipe runs through the radiator bulkhead and back to the main footwell bulkhead. As it passes through the radiator bulkhead the pipe is wrapped in foam to stop it virating against it. Unfotunately, this foam collects water, stays damp and corrodes the pipe within it.

So, has anyone changed this pipe before and if so:

Any general tips on the best way to replace the faulty pipe?

What is the best way to get to the top of the canister. If by removing the front grill, how is this done?

Are there any gaskets to replace at the same time and does the nut connection at the footwell bulkhead, or the flanged canister fitting, need any special type of sealing compound?

Any idea of the cost of this pipe/gaskets and is there a cheaper alternative than Toyota?

    Any help is welcome.

    Thanks
    Brian
