I need a bit of advice as I am starting to lose the will to live
I had a cracked head on my 3.0td k130 which I replaced myself, but after fitting it and running the car up the accelerator pedal was stiff. I must have shorted the kick down cable to earth as the inner plastic sheath had melted. My fault as I hadn't disconnected the batteries when removing the throttle linkage and it must have earthed throught the cable.
I replaced the kickdown cable but I have no drive in reverse gear and when driving forwards it won't chage up to top gear so is over revving.
I am a bit stuck now and wanted to know could I have damaged the ECU when the cable shorted or could I have damaged something in the gearbox.
I have checked the levels using the correct method of selecting gears when hot but that is ok.
Also what inside the box selects reverse, is it a switch or a solenoid?
Any help would be much appreciated as I need the car for work and need to sort it ASAP.
does anyone knoweany good gearbox specialists near Slough if I can't sort it.
Cheers
Dave
