  • Intermittent Brake problem KZN130

Over the last few weeks the brake pedal has gone solid a few times as if no servo, it still stops but puts you off a bit.
It only happens for a couple of applications and then goes back to normal.

I disconnected the servo and checked the pump for vaccum and all seems to be OK, there is no sign of leaks and you can hear the servo when the vaccum pipe is removed.

Does anyone have any ideas? Before I start throwing parts at it!

BTW I have not yet got the chance to look at it when it 'Has' the problem only when everything is working, the only other thing is when you pump the brake pedal the handbrake light comes on after several pumps

I would replace the brake fluid. I suspect that it hasn't been change since being imported of maybe even from new!

The brake fluid was changed last year, we have owned this over three years so know it pretty well.

Surely a fluid problem would give a soft pedal?

Got the same problem, had it for 18 months. Had it checked out by local garage with no obvious problems, No problems passing MOT, so I've just lived with it. Stopping doesn't appear to be a problem with or without caravan and hey it's mainly the wife driving my weekend toy anyway and her life insurance is up to date!
