Bombing back last Sat from Scotland, been to M.I.L.'s funeral.
I kept hearing clanking sound from underneath.
Got home let dogs out, floor stinking hot (dogs real hot).
On Monday scratched around underneath discovered tail pipe had parted
company with back box and was hanging by back hanger.
Ordered from Milners, took a massive 18 hours to reach me!.
Fitted tail pipe. (its not exactly the same shape).
Now I have a clanking between pipe and chassis on start up and @ idle.
The middle section of the tail pipe is very near to the chassis.
At rest or engine off it is about 3 or 4 mm from chassis.

Is there anything suitable I can wedge between pipe and chassis to stop this clanking? or do any members have any other ideas.
I have tried twisting the two parts of the exhaust 'cos there is a bit of give.
But it just pings back to where it wants to be.
I tried a wedge of wood but after start and 100m down the street it must slip out with the vibration. I was also worried on a long run the wood would catch fire!. Should I get on to Milners?. I don't know wether welding the pipe to the chassis is a good idea or not. I assume the exhaust has to have a bit of play or give. All ideas welcome.
    cheers people. martin

Just an idea but do you think fitting larger rubber pipe hangers would ease the pipe away from the chassis? You'd have to change all of them. The other way would be to 'lag the pipe with a bit of fire blanket.
These were off the top of my head, don't weld it to the chassis though!!!

Why not invest in a stainless exhaust, cost about 350.00 to 400.00 from front to back, its all custom made so you can more or less run it where you want

i recently had same problem after i fitted new tailpipe from roughtrax
only seemed to happen when reversing though.

I ended up putting a second rubber hanger on, below the first, but then concerned that tailpipe was too low for offroading,

so i just used original, but it has 2 holes/mounts at top, i just used one of them
and that was enough to to give clearnace and stop knocking

A lot of aftermarket exhausts dont fit right . I have had to tweek them before to get the proper fit . Generally putting the exhaust in a vice near where you need to 'adjust' it and putting a long bar down the tailpipe and moving it that way does the job . Not brill way to do it , but can move it enough without damaging the pipe .
