does the 3.0 td have heater plugs ? i guess so , BUT mine starts with the first turn of the key , like modern day instant start diesels.

Not seen these "instant start" diesels. can you cite an example of such an engine? My repmobile is pretty new but still waits to start the engine after I push the button. I am interested to know more.

my experience with diesels is limited , my understanding of them was to sit until a said glow plug light goes out , then crank the engine .What i'm saying is my surf starts like a petrol motor , no waiting at all , not even on a cold morning .Sorry i can't cite an engine for you , maybe i speak of ' direct injection ' if that's the term they use .

"Scania" = Skåne = province in Southern Sweden.
SAAB bought/merged with Scania-Vabis a few decades ago, but when GM bought SAAB, they only bought the car part of the business.
Scania, the aircraft division and the weapons division were not part of the deal.
