Spare wheel

In the U.S. and Canada, virtually every 4Runner seems to be an underslung spare model. Don't know why, but if the shipping charges are reasonable (and you won't be shipping the actual wheel across), could find some useful stuff on ebay or in a U.S. or Canadian breaker.
Maybe even a tailgate, unless you want to remove the locator for the carrier on your old one and smooth it all out.

underslung spare also gives lower centre of gravity - having that big heavy wheel under the truck!, rather than stuck higher up
maybe thats one of reasons why surfs handle better than discos/shoguns
well - thats what the subaru bumf said for the foresterLandcruiser Colorado
Sub. Forester

Not at all. Plenty about. I would not look at surf with the wheel on the back as I use mine for taking dogs out twice a day (quiet at the back please )
Underslung spare is far better in my opinion as the rear mounted just get in the way. When did you last get a puncture??....... Exactly. Buy one with an underslung spare. its the way to go.
AlI used to have a surf me!

My 3rd Gen has 265/70R16 tyres fitted to alloy wheels. My under-slung spare however is the original 215/80R16 fitted to a steel rim.
I really must get a spare to match the rest in case I get a puncture.
Does anyone know if a 265/70R16 tyre will fit the steel rim? It's a 16" but what about the width?
& will the 265/70R16 wheel & tyre fit in the under-slug position or will it be to big for the winch system?
Many Thanks
Regards
Lewis

One area not mentioned in this discussion so far, is the safety aspect of the rear mounted wheel.
Should you, inadvertently, reverse into a wall, a large lorry, or even the Severn Bridge, with a rear mounted spare you just bounce off - No damage!
Underslung spare, the rear window not operating could be the least of your worries.
And before anyone asks, yes I am speaking from experience(s)!
A few years of owing the truck and I STILL don't know how long it is!
