  • Tailgate open light.

After washing my Surf, I forgot to close the spare wheel holder against the tailgate.
As I moved the vehicle, the spare wheel holder slammed shut against the tailgate.
There is no obvious damage caused, but since then my, "tailgate open light" remains on, although the tailgate and window are firmly closed.

I cannot see any external switch around the tailgate, that may have broken.
Is there something inside the door that needs replacing, or is it something else ?

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Most of the 3.0's have a small microswitch, in a rubber gaiter that the wheel carrier presses on to turn the light off.

I think some earlier, mostly 2.4's don't have this, but a proximity switch inside the tailgate, but not sure.

Thanks TonyN, I can't think how I missed that switch when looking around.

That is the problem, the spare wheel frame must be slightly bent, as its not connecting sufficiently to push that switch off, although it is completely secure.
A small piece of blue tack will sort it out.

i,ve got the same problem on mine.
is it a simple adjustment to the cable which inturn will put more pressure on the switch or remove switch from door and adjust there.
        any info greatly appreciated

See if you can operate it with your finger. If so put one of those stick-on rubber feet on it as a shim.
          It's only a hobby!
