  • Driveshaft Gaiters

    Hi all
Have just purchased a 1994 surf 3.0 ssrx (kzn 130) and have just found the innermost front driveshaft bellows/gaiters are split. Is this a major or expensive job for a diy enthusiast. Any help/advice most welcome.

Assuming the mean the CV joint gaiters (the ones on the drive shafts going to both front wheels) then yes it is a DIY job.

You should replace both gaiters at the same time in case the other one is about to fail (you don't want to do this job twice!). It's a pain to get the shafts out and cleaning them up is messy but it is do-able. Took me about 4 hours I think. Follow the instructions in the 4Runner Haynes manual and you'll be okay.

The CV boots are about £12 from Roughtrax.
