3rd Gen ride quality

I've just upgraded from a 1991 2.4 Surf to a 1996 3.0 3rd gen surf. The engine performance is night n day, the 3rd gen is so much livelier. What impressed me most about the 2.4 was its ride quality, it was very smooth and very car like. However I have found that the 3rd gen does not ride as well. Its a bit more 'jiggy', more what I expect from a 4x4 such as a Discovery but not as bad.

It has the standard 3rd gen alloys and the tyres are running 25psi. Is this something I have to get use to or should I try lowering the tyre pressures a bit more.

Tyre pressure seams to be LOW. Has it got the original shacks on ?

Yes it has got the original shocks on (65k miles). The tyres were at 30 psi when i got the car and it was very jiggy. It felt like the ECT was in Power mode but wasn't.

The ride is quite hard on the 3rd gen load it up and its much better mine is great with either a caravan on the back or with a washing machine in the back now thats one accesory you can't get in most motors!

Notwithstanding what our friends have said, 2 bar or 30 psi is, as they said the correct makers recommended pressures for standard 16 inch tyres. Clearly you should also be advised to get a second opinion on the "ride" its houldn't be "jiggy" even lightly loaded with say just two people onboard. Could be a suspension issue needs addressed ? Check /have checked the springs and more particularly the shock absorbers and anti roll bars /bushes.
Whilst "most people" on here would maybe say something like "crikey, jiggy suspension with only nine years old " nobody knows what the history was BEFORE it came to uk, one can only speculate which would be naughty, so I wont....I hope giving you a better ride is an easy and reasonably economic proposition....check it out IMHO

I was expecting 3rd gene to be more comfortable than 2nd gene, even me I expect to sell my 1991 2.4L and to buy at least 3rd gene surf and ride quality is paramount this story is shocking.

u guys out there which 4X4 provides best ride quality?

I have just swoped from a Discovery (very soft, leans on corners) to a 1997 3 litre SSR-X which is much firmer even with 5 up! I have large BFG's on Alloys. As someone on the Forum said "You get used to it" and I have.

ride quality

I am having the same trouble, the 3rd gen seems very "twitchy" if you turn in sharpe off a roundabout it seems to skip into the centre of the road . My old 2.4 was a much better ride, i am hoping some new h/d springs and new shocks will sort the problem. I was really looking forward to getting my 3rd gen and all this seems to have taken the shine off it a little . Wish i had stuck with my old 2nd gen now !!

I get to drive all types, 3rd gens are much 'stiffer' than 2nd gens, 3rd gens with decent tyres seem to go round corners better IMHO. Don't get to worried about handling issues till you've thrown away the Jap tyres and bought new ones.

You get used to it quickly, its like a 2nd gen after fitting gas shocks and uprated springs.

It still has the jap tyres on (yoka' geolanders) which look like new, so i will put up with it untill they have had some wear !!. i am thinking about buying the 2" lift kit from roughtrax, is there anything else i need to replace other than the springs and shocks ?.

Hey Click i have yoko geolanders on my 2nd gen 3.0 ssrv and they are
far better than any other tyre I have had before including BFGS. solid
into corners and little road noise.
