  • De-sellecting 4WD for Automatic 3.0 ltr Hi Lux

Hopefully someone out there can help me. Have lent my truck to my father, now enroute through Europe. He has accidentally selected 4WD and can't de-select. I have tried to guide him back with little help. De-selecting the button on the 4WD shift hasn't worked.

I wonder if anyone has any thoughts. I am not an engineer or mechanic so instructions to a novice would be great.

If it is in high-range then pressing the 4WD button should engage/disengage 4wd mode, in low-range then it automatically goes into 4wd regardless. Although 4wd may not engage/disengage right-away, it may take a few seconds or a bit of movement etc.

Is it possible that he has put it into low-range? Get him to put it into neutral and ensure it is in high-range, then ensure the 4wd button is not pushed in.

Also try getting him to reverse the car when he has deselected the 4wd button, he should hear a click as is disengages.
