Nope, mines got 2. I think its the nips, they love having extra bits, my old Paj had 2 batts as well. Never did get to the bottom of why, it worked with only one on, but if it was only the other one it didn't, if you see whay I mean. I put it all down to clever jap electrickery.
Parts of your engine go up, stop then go back! Mm!

It's because they use two smaller capacity batteries instead of one great big one. Needs plenty of power to heat up them glow plugs and then spin up such a large lump of metal.

Cant be, my paj had 2x85 amp/hr batts (same as surf) yet when I outed it to the write off man it started up no probs with the weedy little 45 a/h one I put on after removing my 2 new ones. Glow plugs are only on for seconds and my surf & the Paj before always start first hit of the button. Most big plant only has one batt.

can't be?... well it is my son. extra cranking power. your "weedy" little 45 may have been ok for a handful of starts but I'll guarentee it wouln't last very long...

I heard that 2 batteries is an option in Japan for colder climate areas ie. cold starting and heavy use of lighting + heater blower etc.
