  • 4WD on 3.0 SSR-G manual, too may options!!

OK, so this is a bit of an apprentice question but.....
On my manual 2.4 I had 2 gear selectors, one for the ratios and one for Hi/Lo and if I wanted 4WD then just hit the button on the side of the gearstick, simple...

...now I've just bought(much to my delight) a '96 3ltr SSR-G with manual box, the gear setup is very similar but now I seem to have four options on the Hi/Lo stick and I'm just a tad confused, can someone please shed some light on what it all means!!!

    Cheers

All thats different from before is that on the 4wd selector leaver you have th option of running open centre diff (forward) then closed center diff backwards with lever). This is with the leaver in the left position, bringing it to the right takes you into the low range section. It's the norm to leave it forwards (center diff open) then you can just hit the 4wd buton whenever you want, on tarmac, ice, snow you get the jist.
I'm sure one of the fanatics on here will draw you a nice3 little piccy

Thanks Andy, thats what was confusing me, the open/locked diff choice, now I know what the little red light means in the middle of the little green 4WD symbol on the dash, which was of course the real puzzler!!!
