  • Sweet as a nut

I was a bit worried when I invested £4500 in January for my 3.0l surf.
I knew there were a few things wrong with her but nothing that couldnt be fixed.

Well 4 months later and im just about done with all the major stuff.

A full service of all oils and belts even the cam belt got changed.
Iv put on new rear springs and pro-comp es9000 shocks.
New tyres all round only cheap ones ,but they seem ok.
Today I changed all four suspension balljoints and was gonna do the pitman arm ,but yet again it broke my puller(this was an expensive one )so it will be off to the garage for that i think.
The only thing i want to do now is the wheel bearings and they are planned for next week.

In all i spent just over £700 which would have been loads more if the garage had done it.

The surf now driving great and is running as sweet as a nut.
Thanks for everyones help as I was a complete newbie to this car maintenance stuff.

After next week i shall be ready for some greenlaning .

    thanks again

    Mike

Several of us have had to cut a vertical slot with the angle grinder, as deep as you dare, in the old pitman arm and split it with a cold chisel. It pulls off OK then.
None of my ball joints would come apart with a puller either but luckily my brother knows exactly where to apply the FBH. A long lever between the joints and an assistant to apply solid, but not too hard, side on taps with hammer.
        It's only a hobby!
