    Hiii

Please can somebody help me, I have a 1997 3.0 td surf, I just took it for an mot, it has failed on the 2 steering mount bushes. The mot chap said that when he turns the steering wheel, the rack has too much movement within its mounts. I have been able to find the "d" shaped bush for the passenger side from Toyota's which incidentally is £4 cheaper than roughtrax. Unfortunately, I am having problems with trying to locate the mount bush for the drivers side, it resembles a ring. Toyota advise me that they don't sell this bush on its own, it comes complete with the pas rack. I am basically stuffed, as I can't get the vehicle mot'd without this stupid bush. Any advise will be graetly appreciated.

I had the same problem and when the D-shaped bush had been fitted it still moved, so we fitted some washers on the other bushes which made it more stable.

Did find a place in america that does the kit but have not got round to ordering them yet.

i need to do this job soon too. Just need to get off my arse and order the bits though!

        1) How to guide

        2) Manufacturer's web site Part number 8.10101

        3) You can get them from here Part No N80078. Shame they have no email / Internet contact details though. I guess other places sell the kits too but this is the only one I've come across.

        Hope this helps,
        Cheers

Thanks for all the help. I just called these guys, unfortunately, they require a minimum order of over $400 and then there is a shipping charge which the guy couldn't confirm and the delivery time could be 1 month. It's a shame because the complete kit is only $18, a bargain. If only someone in the uk also made these bushes.

If your serious about buying it, I could get a mate in the US to buy it from them, then he could send it over here.

Need the check it'll be OK, it looks pretty universal. Don't forget they are LHD over there.

              Let me know.

                yeeee haaaa

I got some bushes from various cars, cut them to size, then packed them either side of the original bushes and the rack has no movement what so ever. I now have a new mot in my hand.

Thanks to everyone for all their help and advice.

Well I definitely want some, one way or another!
Tony that would be great if you could sort something out for us.
If not, I'm more than happy to put an order through together with Andy.

                  Cheers

I havebeen sending a few emails to companies in America, and just one reply so far from http://www.suspension.com/toyotapickups.htm

[ The only set we have for Toyota trucks is part number 8-10101-G for $13.00US. The shipping weight will be approximately 1 pound. We can ship via the United States Postal Service if you want . Look at their web site for rates: http://ircalc.usps.gov/]

Well that's the right part no. The G just means the bush comes in black - they do a lot of their bushes in red. Sounds cheap too! Looks like postage will be about $20 or so, that US Post website ain't the easiest to understand at a glance!

I wish someone would just sell a kit of all the bushings you need to take some of the slop out of the suspension. My 4Runner has now done 170,000 miles and it's more like sailing than driving.
I'd be first in line for a kit!

                            Yes I had a reply from http://www.energysuspension.com/pages/company.html

Sorry, but we do not have any parts for the application that you are requesting nor do we know of anyone to refer you to. Your best bet is to run a search on the internet for the parts you are looking for.

                            [ME]
That's very strange that you say you do not do these parts, as I had done a search and that was my reason for contacting you, and what I found was
                            19951/2-
00 Front Rack & Pinion Bushing Set 8.10101

Actually that kit is listed in our catalog for the 95.5 - 00 4WD pickup. IT IS NOT LISTED FOR THE 4RUNNER! I also checked the websight and found the listing you sited under the Toyota 4WD pickup but NOT the 4Runner. Check again and you will see that I was right the first time... WE DO NOT MAKE THAT PART FOR THE APPLICATION YOU ARE REQUESTING. OBVIOUSLY I DO KNOW WHAT PRODUCTS ARE LISTED IN OUR WEBSIGHT AND CATALOG. If you want to try the 4WD pickup parts on your 4Runner, go ahead and try but thats not what they were made for and we can not warranty any part used for an application other then what it was designed for.

So we wont be getting them from energy, think the ones from http://www.suspension.com/toyotapickups.htm are the best bet, let me know if you want to go ahead with these.

                              Hehe, nice polite reply then!

Yes I definitely want to go ahead. There's plenty of play in the bushes at the moment and I also want to get the front end aligned again, but don't want to do it without having new bushes first. If you let me know how much it'll cost I can send you a cheque upfront if you like.
                              Cheers
