Surfing through eBay, I found a number of auctions for a device to reduce exhaust smoke. This consists of a 'new bearing'.
Pondering how replacement of a bearing could affect a reduction of exhaust smoke, and how it was a 5 minute job left me stumped - until I realised that the bearing is to be shoved into the EGR tube to seal it off!
This is around £6!!! What a con! Its a bit like 'resistor chips' to improve your bhp without the "uneccessary expense" of ECU mods. Still, people are sucked in by them.
Incidentally, I've disconnected my EGR pipe. Jury is still out though. There seems to be less smoke on hard acceleration, and it *may* feel a little smoother lower down the revs. Doesn't seem to have been any effect on MPG that I can tell though. Can anyone explain why there *would* be?
