  • Changed front shocks

Ok Ill admit it i couldnt wait till Sunday to change the front shocks,im going to do the back on Sunday.

I took some pics and thought id do a little write up.I did a search and didnt find any pics as such ,I know its an easy job ,but i still had to give Tony a buzz( cheers Tony).
I jacked up the front and put it on axle stands to give me more room.

I also managed to do one side with the wheel off and the other with the wheel on and it took the same amount of time, so you choose.

I had been spraying the 22mm nut at the bottom of the shocks all week with WD40 and found them real easy to remove.I left the bolt in untill i had undone the top nut as this can spin.
Then i removed the top two 10mm nuts holding on the adjuster cap. Just move this out the way and undo the top 17mm shock nut.And hey presto the shock should just slide out.

I took a picture of the front procomp 9000 as it came out the box and then again assembled . This was the bit tony helped me with just wasnt sure how the rubber bushes and metal caps went.(im new to this car maintenance lark)

Slide the new shock up through the top mounting hole and make sure there is a bush and cap either side of the mounting hole then tighten down the nut to the end of the thread.

The bottom bolt was eased in and then tightened .

It was straight forward with no problems even for a newbie at car maintenance like me.Ill aslo do a write up for when i do the back ones.

    I hope this helps someone.

    cheers mike

( I know the pics are a bit blurred ,I had to use the wifes cheap camera as they have broken mine)

    Had you tightened it?

    Re your last picture.

I fitted the same shox recently. Wasn't sure how tight to fasten the top so rang Barry from RoughTrax. He said that you need to tighten it down until the two rubber washers are squashed and splay out between 2 and 3 mm proud of the silver cup shaped washers.

Your picture looks as though there's a bit more tightening to do.

    Hope that helps

Yeah thats right rob, I meant to take a before and after picture but the batteries ran out. I did say in the write up that it needs to be tightened to the end of the thread.

      Sorry for any confusion.

By the way shocks are great they feel just about spot on for me.

...but they look very similar / identical to the ones that I purchased from RoughTrax. Maybe they're a different model? Rough Trax priceds = Oil filled @ £32 and Gas filled @ £35 a piece. = £128 or £140 for four.

Sorry about that im a little tired and was skipping some of the text.

              I got them from explorerprocomp.co.uk
They are Ultra-duty nitrogen gas charged and that price includd the boots and delivery.

Sadly not...Looked on the packaging and they're 3000's! The RoughTrax website doesn't specifiy.

9000s might have been a little harsh for ever day driving. As long as you are happy..........good choice
