  • mouse in my gearbox and other things

I can hear a squeak-squeak-squeak noise coming from the manual gearbox on my truck.
When its sitting in neutral and idling. The noise increases as revs increase.
Any ideas what it could be? trucks done nearly 150k miles. and is it worth investigating further.

Also get a rattling from same area, which tails off as soon as the revs are increased. But i suspect this may be a rattly heat-shield on down-pipe on exhuast. even though its clamped down, could be something loose under it.

I have been servicing the truck recently and wondered if its worth servicing the injectors as a precuation ?. as i said its done 150,000 miles.
I get around 24-25 mpg normally which seems OK for a 3.0TD, manual with bullbars and no freewheeling hubs), engine seems to run fine, and no noticeable smoke from exhaust

Got the my 1st MOT in a month for this vehicle, dreading that as i think the steering box may fail, still something clonking in it when i am off-road, even after adjusting it. and have relplaced most other links and ball-joints

    Creaking noises

Possibly some of noises under vehicle???

http://www.carcarecouncil.org/index.shtml - look under manual transmission to see if any of these qualify [maintenance sections]

    or if during driving etc..

Symptoms of a bad universal joint include a repeating squeaking sound when accelerating from a stop, a heavy clunking noise when shifting from drive to reverse or vise versa, or a shuddering sensation when accelerating or driving

Does it do it with the clutch up or pressed down?

As for the injectors, Linda's were shot after 70,000 miles, it ran perfectly fine, but they only dribbled out when tested, its much better now.

Not sure if you have a manual but if you do and if it goes when you press the clutch slightly then it is probably the thrust bearing, I'd ignore it and turn the radio up until you need a new clutch.
Parts of your engine go up, stop then go back! Mm!

For the rattle it is worth checking the propshaft cover/bracket thing underneath. On mine it had split and rattled at certain revs. Took me ages to find as the noise seemed to come from the engine area.
