A/T OIl Temp Warning LIght

Searched the forum for this topic didn't find a lot. This warning light came on today when I was almost home from a 120 mile round trip with a trailer. The load in the trailer was only about 250 lbs and the trailer itself is not heavy (aluminum). Not a warm day either - around 3C. This has never happened before in 4 years with this 1995 3.0L diesel KZN 130. I pulled over for about 20 mins and started it up again, no warning light and it stayed off the rest of the trip.
Any insights what might have caused this? Should I be checking something?

I would flush transmission fluid, and put a separate trans cooler, as it comes factory in my opinion it's not enough ( sharing radiator with the cooling system)

OK thanks for the advice. I'll try that. Any suggestions as to a rad or where I could find more info?
