Non Start without a whiff of brake cleaner

A 3.0td surf that I bought as a non runner mainly for the bumpers to put onto mine starts with a wee spray of easystart then will run / drive fine until its switched off but as soon as its switched of it will not restart from the key it will just wind until the battery goes flat. Give it another spray of easy start and away it goes again. There is no diesel at the injectors when winding although there is power to the shut off solenoid.

Any known faults? Trucks actually in better nick than mine so i'd keep it and scrap mine if I could get it working easily.
