  • Spill Control Valve Replacement

    Hi all

I’ve owned a 2.4 Surf in the past and have recently acquired a Toyota Granvia which has the 1KZTE 3.0 Diesel engine fitted. The Gravnia seems to be the love child of the Hilux engine with a Hiace type body.

I’ve been troubleshooting the car over the last week and believe that the spill control valve needs replacing. The car keeps cutting out mid driving, and it feels like fuel isn’t being delivered into the engine. The car will then start back up OK and can go a short while before this happens again

I’ve ordered a SPV and have heard you can replace this on the fuel pump without needing to remove it from the engine bay. I know I’ll need a thin spanner (already acquired) however, I wondered if anyone had any tips for replacing this part without having to disconnect unnecessary parts.

    Cheers

i have replied to your other thread.

take the air filter housing out and anything generally in the way,

its at the rear of the pump. access is OK once air filter housing removed.

Cheers James. I had a look today and the fuel pump is on the passengers side - not near the air filter housing etc. There are a number of wiring looms in the way so getting to the existing SPV looks awkward!

Does anyone know if the SPV for the 2.4’s is the same as for the 3.0’s?

Not sure if anyone has any recommendations on the next steps for this. I’ve replaced the SPV with a new unit (not cheap!). The car was running fine then after 20 mins cut out again. Exactly the same as before.

Would the ECU be the next thing to have inspected?

The car just loses power, comes to a gradual stop and then won’t start up for another 10/15 mins...

        Any advice welcome. Thanks

if so, i would suggest ecu route. if you can guarantee yourself that with no doubt whatsoever a good supply of interrupted fuel is getting to your fuel pump then i would get the ECU checked out. it does not cost too much to do so. I cannot remember if I suggested the filters inside the pump.

Thanks James. Yes fuel is going into the engine fine. I think it’s an electrical fault as when I crank the engine it doesn’t turn over and you just here the starter motor whirl after a few unsuccessful cranks. The starter seems to work fine having recently replaced the contact points.

Reading up it it might be immobiliser related or wiring loom coming out of the ignition? Will have to have a thorough look over the weekend

Thanks guys. I’ve since removed the ECU and a capacitor has leaked so I’ll be sending that off to a specialist. If this doesn’t solve it I’ll have to get someone to look at the immobiliser.

Thanks I’ll have a read. I’ve since removed the ECU and a capacitor has leaked some ooze out. I’m going to send this off and pray that this cures it

I know its an old post - but did you get the ECU mended, and did it cure the problem? Ive got intermittent stopping, and the fuel lines all look good - my ECU has a leaky cap (see image) - was yours same cap?Click image for larger version
