  • Strange noise

    Hello everybody,

Useless to say I'm pretty new around here. For me, until a few weeks ago, anything having to do with engines was varying between rocket science and witchraft
(currently, trying to do something about it, but it may take a while.)

I've changed the oil (and filter) and soon after, I've noticed some sort of a strange noise. It's like a tapping thing, not too loud; just enough for me to become paranoid.

If I leave the engine running, it doesn't seem to have a regular pattern although it increases when I rev it up.
Could it be something related to the oil's level?- It's above the upper mark...

Thanks for reading, and appreciate any thoughts...

    BTW, 2.4 '91 TD EFI

How far above the full mark is the oil?If it over then better to drain some.If the sump is too full then the crankshaft will be slapping the surface of the oil.In extreme cases this can cause something to break. The best way to describe it is a bit like slapping your hand on the water surface in a pool or something.Water (and oil) has no give when you do this and the harder you hit the more it hurts.High revs and a crankshaft slapping the oil will eventually break something.

Has anybody had a chance to go over this book:

If so, do you think it's worth buying it?
