  • difference between 2L-T black & 2L-T Silver???

i have a 92 surf 2.4TD and the head is cracked.
It has a 2L-T EFI silver cover engine
I'm getting a 2L-T EFI black cover engine that looks in very good condition as a replacement
can anyone tell me tell difference with them
would the head be prone to cracking like the silver cover
    or should i go 2.8 3L

    thankx

No difference as far as I know, same head, just a different rocker cover - earlier ones were silver, later ones were black.

Head may be OK, or maybe suspect. Mines a blacktop and the head went, however not all do so if the price is right go for it. Otherwise get a new head - all the new Toyota ones are of a modified design supposedly that reduces the risk of cracking.

If you could get a 3L engine then drop it in (however you will need a lot of the wiring and the ECU) and fit the inlet and exhaust manifolds and the turbo and all associated wiring across onto the 3L engine. Head is externally the same so the Turbo will fit then you will have a 2.8 TDI engine which should pretty much Rock.

    Cheers
