  • Please Help******mpg Again!!!!!!!

I've had my suf two weeks now.

I only get 350K TOPS!!!!!!!!!! out of £45 per re-fill working out at 17 MPG

I have driven alot of deisels and have been driving this one very tight, no added weight etc. Still I can't get more than 17MPG.

    It sucks

    What can I do?

I know the air filter is new. The only other thing I know of is the fuel filter, but surely it shouln't make this much difference should it?

Any comments would be very apreciated!

    Thanks

    Sparky

I thought the same, odometer reading in km not miles. but checked it against wifes car doing same journey and it is reading in miles after all, so actually getting about 22-25 to the gallon being very careful with the old lead boots etc., chuffed to bits

How many miles has it done - or rather do you know really how many miles it has done. Quite possibly the injectors are knackered, they will have a really adverse affect on fuel consumption if the springs are loose and dripping fuel after the injection cycle. Set of new injectors from www.ukcylinderheads.co.uk will set you back £70.

          Cheers

Thanks for the replies, however this is not being led booted at all.

I shudder to think what it would do with led boots in the driving seat. This is averaging at 17MPG thus £47 - 150miles. NOT GOOD TO ME

I keep very accurate records on my vehicles and my 2.4 auto does 25 mpg with a moderate foot. Towing a large caravan brings it down to about 17 mpg. It would seem that yours needs some adjustments but about 25 mpg is as good as it gets.

                Thanks keith.

Once again, this is not towing anything. No added weight etc.

                17 MPG is absolute tops!!!!!!!!!

Your 2.4L should get more that 17. My 3.0L does 22 ave and 29 on a long M-way run at around 60mph max. I'd look at getting it serviced and tuned by a good diesel mechanic.

Thanks, do you think the timing could affect the MPG this much...........?

I fall in with the rest mate.

My 2.4 manual gets 420-430 km per tank, equating to 25 mpg.

Worst was after driving at 90 mph and it went down to 22 mpg.

Think your surf needs mechanical help - but thats not my speciality - I only mend people!!!!
                      .......because I can....OK!

That is about $135NZ.....I would be looking at ways to reduve my MPG for that sort of money
Just to make ya feel bad I pay $35 for a fill which is about 12 quid to you.
Lead foot all day round here
oh and I only get 350-380 km per fill which is about 55 litres

                          Sparkyaj,

See the thread that I started a while back called Trawl for mpg. (not sure how to link).

I suffer from the exact same problem that you have with my 1993 LN130 surf.

I think that they really suffer from short journeys. I think that in the end you just have to accept it!

Sorry, I know that doesn't help much.

                          Jon.
