  • Is there a link?

I have been reading up on the posts about vegggie oil (just out of interest of course!) and I have also noticed the other key topic on this site the Head cracking. Is there any link between usiing veggie oil and the head cracking. The reason I ask is from what I can see is anumber of people having just " cracked there Head" have also noted they were using a 50/50 mix or 35/65 of oil
    any thoughts

In short no, no & no, never used veg oil other than for my sausages and my head went and know of several others had the same.

        Rephrase the Question

Are you more likley to have head problems ?6 months down the line using veggie oil

or is the percentage of head problems with people who use just Diesel the same as those who use a mixture

No harm in askin is there??

Not sure of anyone who has used vegoil and had the head crack, however as far as I know the head cracking has nothing to do with the type of fuel that you use, only that there is a design fault on some of the heads that makes them more prone to cracking - waterways to close to the valves.

          Cheers

Can't say I've ever noticed such a comment having been made here.
The heads have been known to crack on these engines for some years now, whilst use of veggie seems to be fairly new to this community.

Which posts did you see such references in? links?

              I saw this

Hi all, long time no post!
Unfortunatly my first post for a while is one requesting help....

Just as a background, I have been running the truck on a 60-40 mix of veg oil / diesel. Its been running like a dream. I am however currently on a tank of 100% diesel due to no supermarkets near where I needed to fill up. So...

Went to start the truck this morning and as the starter kicked in, the engine didn't get to turn over, but the starter motor just made a heavy clunk noise. I kept trying to start it and after about 5 nasty heavy clunks it turned and started. Whilst driving up the road I noticed that it was bellowing white smoke out the back, like its never done before, so much so that I couldn't see out the rear window, however, this slowely died after maybe 1/4 mile and dissapeared.

And it gose on...I will keep looking but I am sure there was two more like the above

A more likely cause for the head going (aside of course from their natural tendency) in the example you show above is given further down the thread

.....Some of you will remember my trip to reading, where we went to the pingewood off road site! And I took a left where I shoulda took a right and ended up in a pretty big puddle!! (About 3ft)

Anyway.... everyone at the meet told me to make sure my rad was proper clean. Well I spent a couple of jetwashes on cleaning the rad and visiably it was looking ok. However now its out the truck, probably 2/3rds of it are still clogged up with mud...
