  • Off Road Mixed Surface

    Hi All
as I've said, not done much off road stuff. Used to have a LWB Landrover, and did a bit in that, but Surfin is a different world.Landrover was stop stick it in low and go for it.Just like a tractor ( and about as comfy}.
My questions are. On a mixed section, say hard surface, loose rock, grass and mud, how would you tackle it. 4WD from start , or wait till you lose traction and then 4WD.
    2) Mines an auto, On Steep downhill what is the engine breaking like ?
    3) Any general advice , Things Not to do etc. I,m scared of doing any damage.
But it seems a waste to have such a great Off Roader and not to use it for what it was built for.

    Cheers Ron

My questions are. On a mixed section, say hard surface, loose rock, grass and mud, how would you tackle it. 4WD from start , or wait till you lose traction and then 4WD. YOU JUST PRESS THE 4WD BUTTON

DONT USE 4WD ON THE ROADS OR OTHER HARD SURFACE WHEN TRACTION IS GOODBut it seems a waste to have such a great Off Roader and not to use it for what it was built for.
Look out for our next offroad days in the Northwest.

Personally I would stay in 4WD on mixed surface. It takes a while to wind up the transmission. My first time a Devils Pit I stayed in 4WD all day and it was dry as a bone. No harm done.

I usually select Low Ratio 4WD and L on the gear selector. It's a good crawler gear.

Don't select 4WD on the motorway (at over 50MPH)!

Surfs are as tough as old boots. Get it muddy!
