  • Take off power.

Alrighty folks, we've had our surf for 'bout a month now (2.4lte) and took it offroad last weekend down on the soft sand near Fraser Island. Felt like a Rolls Royce offroad compared to our old Landy... Only thing is that when i had to stop in soft sand and try to get going again there seems to be a lack of power till the turbo kicks in at around 2000rpm. This means i cant's pull away unless revving the nuts off it and risking a burnt out clutch (unless i use low ratio). The old Landy may be a bit of a rodeo ride but i virtually never have to use low ratio to get it going. I'm wondering if its just our surf thats pretty gutless low down (great once the turbo kicks in) or if they are all like that and i'll just have to get used to making more stops to shift ratio.
Is there any way of improving the lower down power.

    Yo
I bet your resistors in the efi fuel pump are shot .
Had the same problem with mine mate is electronic technician found it fixd it by makin his own resistors on the ecu.
A BIG difference in low end power not a slug anymore .
Do a diagnostic check and if it comes with a code 5 then it is definately the resistors .

      SurfinDave,

Could you elaborate on this mod?
Interesting if this might quarantee a performance level, if the resisters are failing or close to, but not enough to raise a fault code (ie. failed).

Images, plan or something that we could investigate?

      cheers, andyL

        Yo surfindave,
you've hit the nailo the head by the looks of the error code 5 on my surf. Any info or pcitures as to where and what size of resistors u installed would be a big help.
        Keepin my finger crossed,
        Col.

I'll see if the resistors are easy to get at on mine. As (I hope) mine are not black and crispy yet, I'll try to read off the value. BBROYGBVGW!
