  • Won't Start after head change

Hi Folks, can anyone help us with this. We have just fitted a new head to a 2.4 but have been unable to get it started since. The mechanic has traced it down to the fuel supply at the cut off solenoid at the pump. There is power to one of the 2 wires (Blue) but he thinks no power coming from the ECU. We are thinking possibly something has not been connected back properly etc etc. The solenoid is not clicking, However........

If you earth out the red wire then the solenoid operates and the vehicle will start but overfuels. Thevehicle was starting perfectly before he changed the head, is it posible that one of the sensors that talks to the ECU has not been connected?.

    Any Ideas

Check the Throttle position sensor if it is a 2.4 EFI engine. This is easy to miss off as it is amongst all the wiring and vacuum pipes around the inlet manifold.

I am sure someone else will come up with another suggestion.

    Cheers

I had this problem, there is a little brown wire which earths out on the back of the block, make sure this is ok and earthed, it is the earth for the heater plug timer and the ecu won't turn the fuel on until the timer has timed out ( I think). Took me about a week to find it.

If yours is the 2LT-E then this is called the Spill Control Valve. It is operated by the ECU and differs from the older mechanical pump which has a solenoid.Testing this in the same way as the older solenoid is not recommended as damage to ECU can result. That's about all that I know about them.
