  • Jolting when starting and juddering when braking ???

My 2.4 Automatic surf has been juddering when I first drive off and then the first few times I brake...Prior to this there was a squeeling sound off the belts.
Local garage has replaced and adjusted the alternator belt and said the juddering was due to transmission fluid being dirty. They drained and replaced then she ran smooth for a couple of weeks. Strarted again last week and took her back they said nothing wrong and possible I had engaged the 4wd by mistake..I didn't. Today started her up and put into drive she didn't move ??? Reversed fine..put into drive again..nothing just as if she was in neautral or hand brake on..put in P engaged 4wd unengaged 4wd...reversed and finally she drove but firstly with an almighty jolt..then a big clunk at first stop and jolt again when moving off..next few stops were jolting and juddering about 10mins into drive seemed to stop and ran smooth...stopped for 1hr when she started up again she drove off fine but still jolted when stopping and moving off..I want to take her back to garage again but wondered if any ideas to where problem could be...I thought maybe fluid needed another flush although garage said they had a look and seemed clean...any ideas?

Hi, try pulling the OD codes from the diagnostic port. It could be a transmission problem caused by the solenoids (provided the fluid is clean and at the right level). Bridge the E1 and TE1 pins with a paper clip, make sure it is touching both. Then turn ignition on and count how many times the OD light flashes, post results on here or google them (the codes are the same for all toyotas I think).
It's a so quick that it' definitely worth a shot.
    Good luck
