  • 1992 automatic surf with gear changing problem

At my 2.4 surf I knotice a smol problem firs but now looks like it is aggravating , losing power first I just had problems with steap hills now is starting to do it when I start driving , I am reving at 3k and its barely moving, it is like its not changing gears properly like its stuck in 3rd. I found some discussions about this sindrom they are saying that the problem might be 3 solenoid from the auto gear box, anybody had this issue
    Thank!

Is it fine when you manually put it in first?

I will try that today or tomorrow, the thing is that if I engage the 4wd it feels better

          Hi,

Try draining the autobox and refilling it a couple of times ( do it once and then again the next day), maybe the trans fluid is past it. Several threads on here on how to do it. Very easy, ten minutes job.

          Cheers

I will try that , but I checked the oil and it looked OK clean and normal viscosity and if the oil is to blame then why the reverse works fine?
I am afraid that it coud be the ECU or the solenoids , I am going to go thru the wiring maybe there is a wire out or broken , I do t know !
Can it be a vacum hose? When I got the car I found a ruber hose loose in the engine bay, one end was somewere in front of the lhs weal , it is like a bite over 1 m long about 1 cm thick and at one end has a plastic plug , I tried to see where cout it go found no clear answer then t thot it coud of been from something else maybe I wos wrong.

If it is still doing it when you put it in L it isnt eletrical. When you put it in L it manually changes the gear, without eletrics involved.

It is an odd scenario. Its almost like its stuck in third it sounds.

Is the fluid a nice cherry red? And smell sweet?

Also, try reading the error codes. It could be something else totally non related..

Update, today all was OK, the o/d light wasn't flashing, no fault codes in , nothing, I have done a test, with my handbrake on in D I coud rev it till 4 k , in L syterted to feel like is puling a bit and the rev won't go above 2500, same in second but without the puling dealing, tried it in reverse same tried it in D and surprise, no revs above 2500, now the engine was cold, I will triet tonight with a worm engine

When you put it in 2nd itll still be in first.

                      Brakes sticking on? Fuel starvation?

Can you check your spelling as well, it makes it harder to understand the problem and assist as much as possible
