  • Outer cv joint replacement - advice please

Hi there. My Surf just failed it's MOT on the offside outer CV joint. It's quite badly split, so I don't think it can be repaired.

I've just read the Haynes on this, it looks like quite a big job. Is there an easy way to do this? I'm short on time at the moment......

    Cheers for any advice.

Quickest fix is to swap in a decent used shaft. Not much to it.

Then replace the boot on the old one at your leisure and have a spare.

Why, is it particularly difficult to replace the boot once the shaft is removed?

No it's a piece of p$$$ but as you have already read up on how to do it and wanted a 'quicker' fix I assumed you didn't have any spare time to do the boots and just wanted your truck back on the road asap..

Gotcha, I was hoping there was some new fangled repair kit out there, or a boot which would go over my existing split one or something. Things haven't moved on in the world of CV boot repair obviously!

          Many thanks for the advice.

Job done, but what a pain! I had to remove the drop link, otherwise there was no room to get the driveshaft out, no matter what I did with the jack etc.
