  • Lowering,

Ok so i have been on here now and then for a while now , about 4 years ago i had an engine hange and had a LS 400 engine fitted into the surf it's a ln130 model 1990. As the years have gone by and my legs aint got the bounce in them as much as they once did have and my dog now finds it hard to leap into the Surf (it's Lexurf III) i am now wanting to lower the whole car/truck, i can get hold of some old landcruiser wheels and tyres and get low profile road tyres fitted but i want to try to lower the suspension front and back, is there a kit to do this or will i have to get coilovers at the back and then wind the tortion bar down at the front, anyway has anyone on here done this , i know it's mainly 4x4 off roaders on here but i hardly ever use mine on the dirt and have been looking at some of the aussie slammed surfs on youtube..any info much appreciated..

Most of the Aussie trucks use airbag ride kits, they are available over here. www.airride.co.uk
Alternatively there are some kits on Ebay.

how has your truck been lowered Storm, i saw on one youtube site some yanks lowering the front of a torsion bar hilux and it did'nt look too hard to do, the airbags are great but almost worth more than the truck but i will have a look at them,,thanks lads.

do you know if 4 Runner front spindles fit on the LN130 surf, i know they are both IFS and have seen a company that sells loering front spindles, looked on a couple of sites and they suggest not going too far with the torsion bar idea and yes you have to cut off the bump stop bracket (the metal it hits against), this might sound silly but i can't just cut the coil springs on the back can i this will mess up the ride wont it? so where can i get shorter springs or is there another Toyota that has the same fitting springs but shorter in length ? lot of Q that you may not have ans for , perhaps i might have to dig on this site a bit or one of the Aussie sites..anyway any help appreciated.

thanks for the photos Storm, does it bottom out a lot at the front when you drive on the road, i know our roads are trash but i can see it bottoming out on a dirt road but wondered what it drove like on everyday use.

I've been looking on U.S. and Aussie sites for Drop Spindles or in our case for the 4X4 , they sell drop spindles for the 2Wd Hilux and 4 runner, but it seems that ones for any of the 4WD models ar non existant, you can get them for Chevy's and Ford F150's that are 4WD but not for the jap trucks it would seem , I had wondered if the drop spindles(I call them hubs where the top and lower suspension arm fixes to) from the 4 runner might fit as the 1990 Surf and 4 runner is almost the same vehicle..but couldn't find any 4 runner lowering parts except the air bag suspension. do you know if any of Toyota's large cars have the same rear fitting coil spring only slightly shorter in length.?

you could cut then reweld the upper arm to get a drop like fitting the spacers but let the ball joint go up though the arm

                            i know bad pic

yes please Budweiser if you could find his contact , and Storm that pics a good idea that way the geometry of the tortion bar will still be the same , good thinking..I'm not too bad a welder did it underwater for a job for years.
                              Thank guys.
